MUSIC CONCERT: Strelitzia Ensemble

CELLO, VIOLIN AND PIANO

Formed in 2008, Strelitzia is a vibrant young ensemble enjoying praise for innovative programs ranging from classical to world, jazz and modern dance music. Strelitzia is deeply committed to promoting Australian music by both emerging and established composers and has commissioned and premiered many new works.

In this program, Strelitzia explores piano trios of extraordinary emotion, each inspired by someone important to the composer. From Haydn’s effervescent trio for his friend and pianist Therese Bartolozzi, to Elena Kats-Chernin’s ‘Calliope Dreaming’, dedicated to Haydn and commemorating 200 years since his death, to Shostakovich’s epic Piano Trio No.2, dedicated to the memory of his good friend Ivan Sollertinsky, the stories behind these adored works flourish under the hands of this talented ensemble.

AUTUMN SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAM: Lego Play in Motion

Stop motion animation is one if the hottest areas of film making today. Stop motion is an animation technique used to make inanimate things spring to life and do the impossible! In this workshop children will create a stop motion movie using lego bricks and figures. They will create their own simple storylines using a phone or i-pad. It’s a great way for kids to integrate ‘creating and making’ with digital technology.

Note: Only limited Lego will be available, so it is recommended that children bring along some of their favourite pieces.

(Please note: Participants must have access to a carer’s smart phone or tablet during this session)

AUTUMN SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAM: Portraits for Kids

This month it’s all about portraits at the Art Gallery!  Looking closely at portraits, children will experiment with portrait making using a photo as their starting point. Bring along a photo of yourself or someone else and learn how to transform your image!

Note: You will need an A4 size printed copy of a photo that clearly shows a face. (A black and white image is fine.)

AUTUMN SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAM: Create a Sculpture with OZ Clay

Oz Clay is the most ‘clay like’ material available when a kiln is not accessible. It is an Australian make air drying clay that has all the properties of normal clay. It requires the same skills for modelling with clay yet it dries in the air. Children will be shown how to create a sculpture of a small ‘head’ using wire armature and clay. The sculpture can then be painted with acrylic paint when fully dry. This is a wonderful introduction to 3-d art!
